Man Takes a Nap in the Middle of an Intersection, Police Say

A man is arrested for driving under the influence after he stops in the middle of an intersection to take a nap.

Police found a man asleep in the middle of the intersection of Bryn Mawr and Union Avenues on Nov. 13, at approximately 4:50 a.m.

Police were on patrol in the area when a pedestrian told them that a car was "parked in the middle of the road" at Bryn Mawr and Union Avenues.

Police arrived at the scene and discovered a green Buick parked in the intersection.

Officers approached the vehicle.  The vehicle's engine was still running, and the lights were on.  Police discovered that the man sitting in the driver's side seat was asleep.

Police also noted that the seat was reclined, the car was still in drive and the sleeping man had his foot on the brake.

After several minutes, police managed to wake the driver of the car, but he was groggy and had a hard time following simple instructions like putting the car in park, police said.

Eventually, the man managed to shut off the engine with the car still in drive, which caused the vehicle to begin to roll towards the officers' patrol car.

Police managed to stop the car.  The man failed a field sobriety test, and he was placed under arrest.
