Thomas J. Walsh
Thomas J. Walsh is a Philadelphia area writer, editor and media consultant who has written extensively about business, planning and zoning issues in the city and suburbs.
A Temple University grad, he has been a business and features writer at daily and weekly newspapers (including the Philadelphia Business Journal and The Philadelphia Inquirer), and was an original member of one of the first profitable Web news services, Commercial Real Estate Direct, based in Newtown, PA, with national coverage beginning in 1999.
For the Reno Gazette-Journal, Tom covered the gaming and tourism business in the Reno-Lake Tahoe area of Northern Nevada for two years. He is now a fulltime freelance journalist and a consultant to several large Philadelphia area economic development organizations and nonprofits, and is a collaborator for The Ecolibrium Group, a strategic sustainability consulting firm based in Philadelphia.
He has also been a regular contributor to PlanPhilly.com, an upstart and nationally recognized news site at the University of Pennsylvania, covering planning, zoning and development. Tom is a decorated veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served as a broadcast journalist on active duty for five years.
