Commissioners, township staff, concerned citizens and apartment representatives met Wednesday night to discuss the tentative sketch plan for a 46-unit, five-story apartment unit to be constructed at 112 Sibley Ave. in Ardmore. Following presentation and comments, commissioners voted to recommend moving the plan forward. A tentative sketch plan, said Assistant Planning Director Chris Leswing, is primarily an opportunity to explore how to preserve natural features of a site and decide where the site’s driveways will go. Randy Fenoli of 'Say Yes To The Dress' will host a fashion show Thursday night at Elizabeth Johns' grand opening party in Suburban Square.
New Suburban Square bridal shop Elizabeth Johns may have opened quietly on Oct. 1, but its staff sure know how to throw a party. The store's sold out grand opening event, to be held Thursday night in Suburban Square's courtyard, will be emceed by TLC's Say Yes To the Dress unofficial star Randy Fenoli. Running from 7 to 10 p.m., the party's main event is a wedding dress fashion show featuring 35 looks from the upscale boutique's collection. Fenoli, the fashion director of Manhattan's Kleinfeld Bridal salon, will host the show. The Saint James, Michael Schulson and Rob Wasserman's "affordable, contemporary" American-style restaurant, should open in Ardmore by October.
After lengthy liquor license delays and construction, Michael Schulson and Rob Wasserman's new restaurant, The Saint James, is almost here. The duo are aiming to open the American-style restaurant in late September or early October. "It's been a long, long, long process," said Wasserman, of bringing the new Suburban Square restaurant, originally slated for a Spring 2012 opening, to life. "It's very exciting; we're now close to finishing with construction, and you see what you’ve tried to create on paper coming to life. ... The chain vacated Ardmore's Suburban Square in March.
In its heyday, it was the Suburban Theater. Most recently, though, it was an American Eagle store. This spot on St. James Place in Suburban Square has been vacant since March, according to Suburban Square general manager Mark Bachus. Bachus said in May that the American Eagle spot and the old Lily Pulitzer space next door (vacated last year when the shop relocated within Suburban Square) are being combined and marketed for another junior anchor tenant. The yoga-inspired athletic apparel company will open before the holiday season in Ardmore.
When life gives you lemons, sign a lease with them. At least, that seems to be the philosophy of Kimco Realty, the owner of Suburban Square Shopping Center in Ardmore. Specialty apparel company Lululemon Athletica will be moving into the old Seidenberg Luggage space across from Williams Sonoma, and should open before the holiday season, according to Mark Bachus, Suburban Square general manager. It's a welcome piece of news following the departure of Jay Michael Salon and Spa on Saturday, which brought the number of vacancies in the shopping center up to 10. Jay Michael merged with its St. Davids location and Spa Solas is moving to Bala Cynwyd.
It happened fairly quietly—there's not even a note on the door of its vacant Suburban Square storefront—but Jay Michael Salon of Ardmore closed on Saturday, merging with its St. Davids location. Spa Solas, which sublet Jay Michael's second floor, is moving to Bala Cynwyd, according to owner Meg King. "It's really sad—from an outsider's perspective, it seems to me that with the rent and the fees for [shared maintenance] being so high in Suburban Square, smaller boutiques stores, non-chain stores, can't afford to stay here," King said. Two new tenants at the Ardmore shopping center, both specialty apparel tenants, will be announced within weeks, general manager Mark Bachus said.
Despite a number of recent vacancies and announced store closings, including Apricot Lane, Victoria's Secret and American Eagle, Suburban Square continues to thrive, Mark Bachus, the shopping center's general manager, told Patch last week. Currently, Suburban Square has seven major store vacancies, but the center will announce two new tenants within the next few weeks, according to Bachus.
