how about this....reduce prices and create a more casual dining experience and you may actually get some repeat customers. Over priced and sub-par food equates to a once and done diner.   more ›

No Stars for Ardmore's Saint James

Philadelphia Magazine is the latest to give The Saint James a bad review.

The Saint James in Suburban Square recently got some heat from The Philadelphia Inquirer in January for "a clumsy waitstaff, overcooked meat and forgettable cocktails," wrote Inquirer restaurant critic Craig LaBan. LaBan, who visited the restaurant more than once, sounds off his review with a message: "I can only hope this proven team of competent restaurant veterans figures out a fix, and fast." Since then, Philadelphia Magazine came out with its own review of the restaurant and gave The Saint James no stars. Philadelphia Magazine restaurant critic Trey Popp writes, "If there's one thing Rob Wasserman and Michael Schulson's new Ardmore bistro knows how to do, it's disappoint." Popp liked the cooked salmon fillet and the crispy clam-and-…

Is The Saint James 'Disappointing?'

The Inquirer weighs in on the new Suburban Square restaurant. Share your own thoughts on the Ardmore bistro.

The Philadelphia Inquirer recently weighed in on Suburban Square's newest restaurant, The Saint James, giving it a less than favorable review. A clumsy waitstaff, overcooked meat and forgettable cocktails were among the complaints of Inquirer restaurant critic Craig LaBan, who visited the restaurant on more than one occasion before penning his review. The Main Line rejoiced when it was announced that Sampan's Michael Schulson and Rouge's Rob Wasserman would be opening an American bistro-style restaurant in Ardmore, but since the restaurant's opening in October, many have commented on the restaurant's poorly trained waitstaff and less than memorable food. Despite "having debuted with such obvious promise," LaBan writes of The Saint James, "…

I ate at St James last night. It was my second time there. I had an Old Fashioned, the first two sips of which were great, but then the excess of crushed ice watered it down quickly. I expected better. The mushroom soup and grilled scallop entree were nicely done. The wait staff was friendly and attentive, but I agree that they need to be trained to interpret what is going on at the table. An …   more ›

New Suburban Square Restaurant Opening Early Fall

The Saint James, Michael Schulson and Rob Wasserman's "affordable, contemporary" American-style restaurant, should open in Ardmore by October.

After lengthy liquor license delays and construction, Michael Schulson and Rob Wasserman's new restaurant, The Saint James, is almost here. The duo are aiming to open the American-style restaurant in late September or early October. "It's been a long, long, long process," said Wasserman, of bringing the new Suburban Square restaurant, originally slated for a Spring 2012 opening, to life. "It's very exciting; we're now close to finishing with construction, and you see what you’ve tried to create on paper coming to life.  ... I can’t tell how much fun it is for us to walk in every day and see small minute details taking shape." The Saint James, which will occupy the old Victoria's Secret spot in Ardmore's Suburban Square, is a collaboration …
