Merion Station Resident Receives National Merit Scholarship

Rebecca Arenson, of Merion Station, recently received the National Merit Lockheed Martin Academic Scholarship.

A Lower Merion High School student recently received the prestigious National Merit Lockheed Martin Academic Scholarship award. Rebecca Arenson, of Merion Station, was the recipient of the award. The Lockheed Martin Corporation Foundation supports Merit Scholarship awards for children of Lockheed Martin employees located throughout the world, according to the National Merit Scholarship program. "These scholarships are part of the corporation's support to its employees, the community, and to education, reflecting its strong belief that higher education is essential to the nation's future," according to the program.

4 Break-Ins in One Day in Merion and Wynnewood, Police Say

Three burglaries and an attempted burglary occurred on March 27, Lower Merion police said.

Three burglaries and a burglary attempt in Merion and Wynnewood were reported on March 27, Lower Merion police said at a Monday briefing.  In two incidents, several pieces of jewelry were taken; in the others, homeowners were away and it is not known what is missing at this time, according to police. The break-ins occurred on: 300 block of Baird Rd, Merion Station: The burglary occurred between 12:45 p.m. and 1:58 p.m., police said. Police responded on report of an alarm activation and discovered forced entry had been made to the residence on the first floor, according to the report. Home Burglaries Probed in Ardmore, Merion Station

Two separate reported home burglaries were reported in the Ardmore-Merion Station area.

Playstation 3 Stolen From Sutton Road Home A home in the 100 block of Sutton Road in Ardmore was burglarized on Feb. 26 between 8:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Police say the victim returned home to discover a first-floor window open and a Playstation 3 valued at $300 missing. Stained Glass Windows, Chandeliers Stolen From Merion Station Home Stained glass windows valued at $20,000 and three chandeliers were reported stolen from a home in the 600 block of South Highland Avenue in Merion Station, according to police. The rear door of the home appeared forced open; the homeowner believes the theft took place between Feb. 24 and 26. Note: This information was provided by the Lower Merion Police Department. Police: 3 Merion Burglaries in 2 Days

Lower Merion police apprehended suspects in one of the burglaries. It's unclear whether the three burglaries are related.

Three burglaries occurred in Merion Station between Dec. 19 and 20, including one in which an estimated $10,000 in antique jewelry was stolen, Lower Merion police told news media at a Monday briefing. Merion Station Man Dies in Bala Cynwyd Car Crash

A second man in the car was injured Saturday morning, police said.

A Merion Station man was killed and a Narberth man was injured early Saturday morning in a one-car accident on Rock Hill Road in Bala Cynwyd, Lower Merion police said. About 2 a.m., Jason K. Dubin, 27, of the 500 block of Revere Road in Merion Station was driving west on Rock Hill Road with Nicholas Tropea, 22, of the 1000 block of Montgomery Avenue in the car, police said. Police believe the car was traveling at high speed when it struck a utility pole on the right side of the road. Dubin was pronounced dead at the scene. Tropea was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Kosher Restaurant Citron And Rose Announces Opening Date

Michael Solomonov's kosher restaurant will open in Merion Station within the week.

Citron and Rose, the latest restaurant venture of Zahav's Michael Solomonov, will open on Nov. 7, the restaurant announced Friday in a press release. The restaurant focuses on glatt kosher cuisine, but will "transcend tradition" with "genre-defying kosher dishes," the release states. Solomonov, of Philadelphia restaurant Zahav, will open the restaurant with Zahav co-owner Steven Cook and David Magerman of the Kohelet Foundation, who will be the restaurant's official owner. Chef Yehuda Sichel, who is trained in kosher cuisine and has worked with Chef Solomonov at Zahav since 2010, will be the restaurant's chef on a day-to-day basis.
