Interested in marshaling the Narberth Memorial Day Parade?
The Narberth Memorial Day Parade is short a few marhsalls and is looking for six to eight volunteers to fill the role(s). The duties associated with the post are simple: volunteers will report to the Legion Post at 8:15 am on May 27 to help coordinate the lineup positions for the various civic and community groups in the parade, then, when the parade starts, ensure the various groups maintain a safe and reasonable distance between one another, so that each group can be seen and recognized. Interested parties are asked to contact John Nardi at 610-664-5504. Nardi will provide further instruction on what, precisely, the position entails. The 2013 Narberth Memorial Day Parade is scheduled for Monday, May 27. The parade begins at 9:30 a.m…

The Lower Merion community gathered at St. Paul's Cemetery on Memorial Day to honor veterans and those currently serving in the military.
The Lower Merion community gathered at St. Paul's Cemetery in Ardmore on Monday to honor veterans, commemorate lives lost through war, and remember military service members who are still serving today. The Memorial Day service, which followed the Lower Merion Township Memorial Day Parade, included prayers from Rev. Harry McDowell of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and Rev. Albert Johnson of Bethel AME, the laying of wreaths by Lower Merion Commissioners and state Rep. Tim Briggs, and the playing of "Taps" by Lower Merion High School student Christine Emery. Lower Merion's tradition of honoring its veterans is a long one. Following World War II, then-Lower Merion School District superintendent Dr. Edward Snow organized a service to honor the war…
The Lower Merion Township Memorial Day Parade strolled through the streets of Ardmore on Monday, May 28.
People of all ages lined the sunny streets of Ardmore on Monday for the Lower Merion Township Memorial Day Parade. The day began with a performance from the Merion Concert Band, and continued with a parade of fire engines, bikes, cars and marchers that made its way down Lancaster Avenue before turning toward St. Paul's Cemetery. Aside from local boy scout troops, the Lower Merion Historical Society and other organizations, three drill teams also participated: Finest Drill Team and Drum Corps, the Conestoga Angels, and Eastwick Commandoes. A small glimpse back at the final moments of Monday's Memorial Day service at St. Paul's Cemetery.
There's no more poignant moment than the playing of "Taps" at the conclusion of a memorial service, whether on a day of general remembrance like Memorial Day or at the funeral of a service member. Except perhaps a well-said prayer from the heart. Those gathered in the heat at St. Paul's Cemetery in Ardmore last Monday got both, with a mournful bugle from Christine Emery, a trumpeter and jazz musician at Lower Merion High School, and comforting, wise words from Rev. Albert Johnson, of Bethel AME Church.

The U.S. Air Force Honor Guard Drill Team wowed 'em on Monday morning.
Our only regret is that we didn't get the entire act on video. The U.S. Air Force Honor Guard Drill Team, based at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C., performed at Monday's Lower Merion Memorial Day Parade, and as usual, created a big buzz and earned several rounds of hearty applause. We couldn't think of any better way to put it than the drill team does on its website: "A standard 16-person performance features a professionally choreographed sequence of show-stopping weapon maneuvers, precise tosses, complex weapon exchanges, and a walk through the gauntlet of spinning weapons." Here's a little over a minute of the routine. Our apologies to the Drill Team—it really doesn't do them justice. But don't miss the "gauntlet of spinning …
