Patch's Little Pumpkin Costume Challenge Winner Is...

Thanks to everyone who submitted photos to Patch’s 'Little Pumpkin Costume Challenge.'

Patch’s first Halloween Costume contest was a big success, thanks to Ardmore-Merion-Wynnewood Patch readers and Patch fans from coast to coast. Nationwide, Patch’s more than 850 local sites received 2,700 entries. It wasn’t easy to pick a single winner, but that winner is Wyckoff Patch’ s Headless Boy Jack Hagan. Disturbing, no? But fun, yes.  Here are the 10 top runners-up. Did you take photos on Halloween?  The contest is over, but we'd love to share your favorite photos with other Patch readers. You can continue submitting your Halloween photos here.

If Walls Could Talk

Digging the Past, For Real, at St. Paul's Cemetery

Ardmore's creepy past has been a well-kept secret for centuries.

But the bigger project he has been undertaking has been piecing together almost 250 years of history that is buried beneath the peaceful earth at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in Ardmore. Dougherty is constantly finding new stories and links to the past through extensive research and, sometimes, happenstance. Just the day before he gave me a tour of the historic graveyard, he had made a new discovery. For years, the oldest gravestone (not burial plot, mind you) was Johanna Muller, who died on July 25, 1766. But while preparing for a recent burial, Dougherty was finally …

Thanks for the article! It caught my attention because my husband, our teenagers, and I combed through this cemetery in June 2012 and found a few of our relatives' graves. We live in Utah -- We took the time during a family trip to go to the cemetery, but no one was around when we visited, so it was great to read some of the history. Records are so valuable! We did find some online records of …   more ›
