The case of Gabrielle Drexler, the Rosemont woman who authorities say falsely accused a Lower Merion police officer of stalking and sexually assaulting her, is headed to trial in the Court of Common Pleas. Drexler, 26, appeared before District Court Judge Margaret Hunsicker Tuesday morning for a preliminary hearing. She filed in July a federal lawsuit against two Lower Merion officers, the Lower Merion Police Department and its superintendent, and against the township, alleging that Police Officer Michael John had "repeatedly stalked her while on duty" and "also that he physically assaulted her." A Rosemont woman who filed a federal lawsuit in July, alleging sexual assault by a Lower Merion police officer, was arrested Friday and charged with perjury after a grand jury concluded she falsified records of correspondence with him. The woman, Gabrielle P. Drexler, surprised the Lower Merion Township Board of Commissioners in May by making those criminal accusations against police officer Michael John and accusing officer Steven Salera of threats and intimidation. Drexler sued John, Salera, Lower Merion Township, the Lower Merion Police Department and police Superintendent Michael J. McGrath. Drexler is charged with third-degree felony perjury. The surprise public accusations by a Township woman two months ago, accusing one Lower Merion police officer of sexual assault and another of threats and intimidation, have resulted in a federal lawsuit against the two officers, the Lower Merion Police Department and its superintendent, and the Township itself.
