Congratulations to Erin Holvoet. She is the winner of this week’s Patch Picture of the Week contest with her fireworks picture. Her picture of a boy watching fireworks was a crowd favorite. Photos: Independence Day in Ardmore

Snapshots from South Ardmore's Fourth of July celebration.

It was a hot, sunny day on Wednesday, but the heat didn't stop a bunch of patriotic paraders from decorating their bikes, scooters and even power wheels for the South Ardmore Betterment Alliance Fourth of July celebration. Kids had the chance to ride their bikes alongside the Oakmont Fire Company, making their way to Elwell Field for a best-dressed contest, food, games and fun. The event was emceed by Jason Guynes of 6:8 Community Church in Ardmore.  Check out the photo gallery above for a look at the fun—along with cameos from some special celebrity guests, including Miss America, Lady Liberty and Captain America. Celebrate July 4 In Lower Merion

Wondering where (and when) the fireworks are? If you neighborhood is doing anything? Here's a wrap-up of Lower Merion July 4th events. The South Ardmore Betterment Alliance will be hosting its annual South Ardmore Independence Day celebration on Wednesday at Elwell Field (near the intersection of Belmont Ave. and Ardmore Ave.). 10 a.m. The event begins with a patriotic parade of decorated bikes, strollers and wagons leaving from Chestnutwold Elementary School (Belmont Ave. and Lorraine St.) at 10 a.m. that will work its way through the neighborhood and eventually wind up at Elwell Field. 10:20 a.m. The National Anthem will play and judging for "best dressed" begins. 10:30 a.m. A ribbon cutting will inaugurate the new Elwell Field …

Police, PennDOT to Target Drunken Drivers

The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” initiative is set to run through July 8.

The following information comes from a release from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. State and local police, along with PennDOT, will take part in a national enforcement effort through July 8 targeting motorists who drive under the influence. The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement effort will focus on keeping Pennsylvania’s roads safe during the Independence Day travel period. “Many people will celebrate and travel for the Independence Day holiday,” PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch said in a release. “Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs puts your life and the lives of those around you in danger.” “Motorists must understand that alcohol and driving never mix,” said State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan …

The Week Ahead: 5 Things to Know

A heads up for those who live or work in Ardmore, Merion and Wynnewood.

Monday night's Planning Commission meeting will look at tentative sketch plans for a new business in Wynnewood Shopping Center. On the agenda for consideration is a plan to demolish a 4,052 square foot building and build a drive-through bank, and another plan to build a restaurant with outdoor seating. Read the full agenda. Because of the July 4 holiday, all libraries and government buildings will be closed on July 4. Trash and recycling will operate on a holiday schedule this week due to the July 4 holiday. Can I Buy Fireworks in the Ardmore Area?

If you have any questions about buying fireworks, the State Police might have the answer.

The following information comes courtesy of Pennsylvania State Police. Due to the upcoming July 4th holiday and summer season, here are some FAQs regarding fireworks. Q: Can I use fireworks in Pennsylvania? A: State law prohibits the use of Consumer and Display Fireworks in Pennsylvania without a permit. Items defined as “ground and hand-held sparkling devices”, “novelties” and “toy caps” in American Pyrotechnics Association (APA) Standard 87-1 are not currently regulated by State Law; therefore, their sale and use are permissible. These “non-fireworks” are the only types allowed to be sold from tents, stands, convenience stores, retail establishments and other various outlets not licensed by the Department of Agriculture. Forecast: Heat Wave Through the Fourth of July

An NWS alert is in effect through the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

The National Weather Service is predicting highs at or above 90 for the next week in the Philadelphia area, prompting an Excessive Heat Watch. The alert, issued Wednesday afternoon set to expire at 8 p.m. Sunday, covers Montgomery, Philadelphia, Chester, Delaware and Bucks counties. The NWS predicts highs of 91, 97, 96 and 96 Thursday through Sunday, followed by 93, 90 and 90 Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday's Fourth of July holiday. Aside from a slight chance of rain Thursday night and Friday, virtually no precipitation is in the forecast.
