Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission kicks off photo contest.
With its revitalized downtown, historical significance and emerging arts scene, Ardmore is certainly photogenic. And starting Monday, residents can show off downtown Ardmore photos in a picture contest from the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission. A part of the commission's Classic Towns campaign, the contest allows amateur and professional photographers to vie for best photo in one of the 20 designated classic towns. “This is a fun opportunity to show why we love our Classic Towns,” DVRPC Executive Director Barry Seymour said in a news release. “Our goal is to help spread the love for Classic Towns so people embrace them as great places to live, work, and play.” Ardmore was designated a Classic Town just last July. Local civic and business leaders weigh in on the latest honor, from CNN Money, bestowed on Ardmore.
Ardmore is no stranger to accolades of late, for being ... well, for being a cool town. It’s been cited as a great place to live on the regional level (the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission recently named Ardmore a “Classic Town”) and nationally—CNN Money named Ardmore no. 45 on its list of 100 “Best Places to Live” (Money’s list of America's best small towns), published Monday. The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission is starting its second annual trolley tour of thriving small downtowns in Ardmore, and will tour the Frank Lloyd Wright home currently for sale.
In just its second annual “Classic Towns Trolley Tour,” scheduled for Wednesday, July 27, the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission has chosen to spotlight Ardmore, starting the day with a breakfast hosted by the Ardmore Initiative. About three dozen local business owners and representatives from other DVRPC-designated “Classic Towns” throughout the region will also tour Ardmore’s downtown business district, and visit the Frank Lloyd Wright “Suntop” homes on Summit Road. One of the homes, built in 1939 with the ambition of being a cornerstone for a new type of community planning, is currently for sale, as first reported by Patch last month. Ardmore is totally a photogenic town. I love all the changes they're making to Suburban Square. I do miss some of the touches from years gone by like that giant giraffe in the Banana Republic store, but that's been gone for a while.   more ›
