The Trapp Family Singers, depicted in Sound of Music, lived in Merion Station from 1939 to 1943.
The photo above, courtesy of the Lower Merion Historical Society, depicts the Von Trapp family at Christmas time, during their four-year stay in Merion Station. The family, whose story inspired The Sound of Music, settled briefly in Lower Merion after fleeing Nazi-controlled Austria. They lived on Merion Road in a house lent by music patron Henry Drinker Jr., before moving to a Vermont farm in the mid-1940s. The Lower Merion Historical Society caption reads: "The von Trapps with the family priest, Father Franze Wasner, at left, who also conducted the twelve singing Barons and Baronesses."

White Christmas could occur as Santa comes to town.
It might be light, but this Christmas could be white. With a 90 percent chance of precipitation, Dec. 24 and Dec. 25 could see some snowfall this year. The National Weather Service predicts a mix of rain, snow and sleet through 4 a.m. Dec. 25. Temperatures will hover around 33 degrees, allowing some chance of Christmas snow.
