Kobe and Mom Set to Face Off in Court

A trial date for the Bryant's bizarre memorabilia dispute has been set for June.

A federal judge on Tuesday set a trial date for Kobe Bryant's escalating battle with his mother over $1.5 million of memorabilia she says he left at her Pennsylvania home, the Courier-Post is reporting. According to the paper, the Bryants will have what figures to be a tense family reunion on June 17 in a courtroom in Camden, where U.S. District Judge Renee Marie Bum will allow Kobe's California-based complaint to be transferred into her court. Philly.com has reported that, according to their attorneys, both Kobe and mom Pamela Bryant will be in attendance. The mother-son beef began on April 30, when Goldin Auctions, a New Jersey-based auction house, announced that it would be selling off an estimated $1.5 million of Kobe's memorabilia—…

Judge: Kobe's Mom Can't Sell His Stuff, Yet

A federal judge has put the controversial auction on hold until he figures out which court should settle the case.

Kobe Bryant's mom wants to sell some stuff she says her son left at her house years ago. Kobe doesn't want her to. A handful of lawyers, and several different courts, are now involved in the mess. Oh, and the "stuff" in question is worth an estimated $1.5 million. And you thought your Mother's Day was contentious. On Thursday, the bizarre and increasingly public dispute between Kobe and mom Pamela Bryant took another turn when, according to multiple outlets, a district judge in California ruled that the scheduled auction of old Kobe merchandise—including game-worn jerseys from his time at Lower Merion High School—would have to halted until the judge in question decides what court should handle the case. According to ESPN.com, Judge Andrew …

Kobe Taking Mom to Court to Stop Memorabilia Auction

Pamela Bryant took a $450,000 advance to sell items her son left in her home years ago.

Kobe Bryant really wants mom to leave his stuff alone. ESPN.com is reporting that the NBA All-Star and Lower Merion grad has taken to the courts to stop mom Pamela Bryant from auctioning off a collection of items from his high school days and the early part of his pro career. Bryant had left the items in her home over five years ago. The property in question includes a game-worn jersey from Kobe's time as an Ace, signed balls, and his 1996 Pennsylvania state championship ring. According to IndyStar.com, the trouble began this week. After Goldin Auctions announced the auction (which is planned for June) on Tuesday, the All-Star's legal team sent the house a cease-and-desist letter. Two days later, Goldin filed a lawsuit in US District Court…

Kobe Bryant's Mom is Auctioning Off His Stuff

Interested in a game-worn Kobe Bryant jersey from his time at Lower Merion? Pamela Bryant has you covered.

It's common for parents to clear their kids stuff out of the house after the nest has been emptied. Childhood bedrooms, become studies; game rooms become amateur art galleries. It's a little less common though when the kid in question is Kobe Bryant. According to NBCSports.com, Goldin Auctions, in partnership with Kobe's mom, Pamela Bryant, will be auctioning off a few choice pieces of Kobe memorabilia in June, several of which go back to his days at Lower Merion High School. The item expected to generate the most interest, according to Goldin's website, is a game-worn jersey from Bryant's Aces career. The centerpiece of the Kobe Bryant Collection: presented by Goldin Auctions is his road maroon Lower Merion High School (LMHS) basketball …

Kobe's mother should be ashamed of herself. What kind of mother would go behind their son's back to auction off his sentimental valuables without his permission t use his fame to get money for a down payment on a home that she probably does not need. She has no young children, maybe she should think about downsizing to an apartment or condo using her own money, not by monopolizing on her son's …   more ›

Cecily Tynan Among Philly Runners Seeing Red

Philadelphia's runners are showing support for Boston with their socks during the Broad Street Run.

Participants in the Broad Street Run are planning to show their support for the city of Boston. From the City of Brotherly Love, one popular way to show the love is apparently through one's socks. According to a recent Philly Mag blogger, and a Facebook group that has more than 1,000 members, many area sporting good stores are stocking up on red socks. Those participating in the Broad Street Run, slated for Sunday, May 5, are planning to wear red running socks to show the love for Boston. Get it? Red ... Sox ... Runner and Action News meteorologist Cecily Tynan told her Twitter followers this weekend, "Tried out my red compression socks in a tempo run 2day. Test everything out b4 race day!" If you're wondering where she got her pair, she …

Broad Street Run Bans Backpacks for 2013 Race

Runners are being encouraged to bring as little as possible with them this year.

Following the backpack bombings at the Boston Marathon two weeks ago, runners in this year's Broad Street Run in Philadelphia won't be able to tote their gear in a backpack, race organizers announced in a mass email to participants Monday. Taking a page from the Transportation Safety Administration's playbook, race organizers are mandating runners use clear plastic drawstring bags, which will be handed out at the expo Friday and Saturday, to stow their gear this year. “You are strongly encouraged to bring as little as possible with you to the start of the race,” race organizers said in the email to runners. “All items brought into the start area are subject to search and/or confiscation.” Race organizers only indicated backpacks would be …

Jason Collins is the first active player in a major U.S. sport to announce he is gay.

hopefully you're using the word "preference" in the sense of "sexual preference" not "choice..." watching basketball is a choice... being gay is not (unless the person in question is bisexual, in which case, they do have a choice)... i too look forward to the day when this sort of thing doesn't bear announcing, but it was a very courageous move on Mr. Collins's part to be the FIRST current major …   more ›
