Wynnewood Man Dies at 89

Former Lower Merion Firefighter Dies at 69

William 'Bill' Shechter passed away Feb. 26, 2013.

William "Bill" Shechter, former Lower Merion Township firefighter, 69  Bill attended Delaware Valley College and the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School for five years but left to pursue his dream of becoming a firefighter. He got his start in the fire service in the Lower Merion Township Fire Department [Belmont Hills Fire Co. and Penn Wynne Fire Co.]. They had many mutual aid calls with the Philadelphia Fire Department.   After an adventurous car trip to Alaska with his friend, David Silver, Bill applied for and was hired by the City of Fairbanks Fire Department. He enjoyed many outdoor Alaskan activities and decided this would be home for him. In 1970, he became assistant fire chief for the University of Alaska Fairbanks Fire …

Officer Quinn's Funeral Mass Set for Saturday

The Lower Merion police officer committed suicide Monday morning, according to authorities.

A memorial Mass will be held Saturday morning in Bryn Mawr for Lower Merion Police Department Officer Sean Quinn, who died Monday, the department announced Wednesday. The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Mother of Good Counsel, at 31 Pennswood Road, to be followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery in Villanova. Before the ceremony, friends and family will be received at Our Mother of Good Counsel from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-10:15 a.m. Saturday. Quinn, 46, a 25-year veteran of township police, died Monday morning in a Philadelphia park of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to authorities. Ardmore Woman Killed in Skiing Accident, Reports Say

Natalie Egleston, 48, of Ardmore, was vacationing in Aspen.

A 48-year-old Ardmore woman died Monday as a result of injuries from a skiing accident in Aspen, CO, the Aspen Daily News reports. Natalie Egleston, 48, suffered traumatic brain injuries when another skiier collided with her on Aspen Mountain. Egleston was skiing that day with her boyfriend, according to The Daily Mail. Pitkin County deputy coroner told Aspen Daily News that Egleston was not skiing at the time of the collision, but waiting for friends. Around 3:45 p.m. Monday, a female skiier from New York City collided with Egleston, Aspen Daily News said. Ski patrol found Egleston unresponsive, and she was transported to Aspen Valley Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The Daily Mail writes: County deputy coroner Eric Hansen said …
