I hope you're not serious, sheilapa. I don't play golf or even follow it, but having the Open at…Read More Merion is a big deal for our area, and this was a wonderful moment. Turn that frown upside down.

I agree with JD , smile Sheila. We need more positive stories such as this to combat an epidemic of…Read More negativity.

US Open 2013, Merion Golf Club .... What a lift for this region!!!

Thanks for this info with a side of humor, author Tom. While I plan to avoid the area near the…Read More course all week, it's good to have the 'big picture' view of the entire event. I anticipate traffic trouble when it's over, too, as crews dismantle and cart away all those tents, bleachers, fences, and other 'equipment' put up for this tournament.

Not quite everything. No cell phones are allowed at the Open. How are attendees to contact…Read More families/friends for rides home? I called a variety of offices and no one knew! After some checking I found out phones would be available on the premises. Pay phones, courtesy phones? No one knew! More delving. Answer: Courtesy phones.
Big push for public transportation. Ok, what times do the Rosemont shuttle buses run? No one knows! They "suppose", though don't know. How do folks taking public transportation let people know when to pick them up. Simple, call from the courtesy phone prior to getting on the shuttle bus. Not so simple. With the traffic generated by this event, the ten minute time estimation for the trip seems out so sync with reality. Missing a train will be a common occurrence. Phones at the shuttle bus stops at Rosemont? Again, nobody knows and it seems no on thought this through. This will be a nightmare if phone service is not supplied for those needing rides.
I wonder what else has fallen through the cracks.

Kobe is sueing saying the items are in fact his. She took $450,000 advance for house in Nevada and…Read More now Kobe is trying to block the auction. I guess mom and Kobe are not so tight anymore?

Not if the school GAVE them to Bryant, or he actually paid for them as many do.

Kobe's mother should be ashamed of herself. What kind of mother would go behind their son's back to…Read More auction off his sentimental valuables without his permission t use his fame to get money for a down payment on a home that she probably does not need. She has no young children, maybe she should think about downsizing to an apartment or condo using her own money, not by monopolizing on her son's fame to get the down payment. Shame on her & I hope Kobe gets his property back.

Well, the HD pics will make both townships look pretty with the legendary course. It's up to…Read More planners/promoters how to best handle the biz. I'd be hustling services well in advance, promoting the heck out of a local biz (tax revenue is thus the answer) and hope groups splinter off and spend. In vast experiences with corporate sponsored events, meals and entertainment is first to benefit. It's the job of local officials to have promoted 'the right' businesses with the tour, in advance. Then, it is the 'after' event 'meals' with taxi/bus services and the hotel bars that get a boost. But wait, there's more! thousands plan 'sneaking away' trips into the nightlife- and that will be mostly in the city- not at the hotel bar or local watering holes - the attendee age determines. These events are well planned, have an attitude much like a rock tour or any traveling circuit. Tax revenue, uptick in liquor, food, transport, other services. Creativity will ring a register done right and following rules.

This is such nonsense. How many thousands of running races, big and small, are held around the…Read More country every year where attendees have backpacks and nothing ever happens. Then there's one incident where a bomb was in a backpack and everyone hyper-reacts.
Women are going to have to get used to just carrying wallets around like men, because it's easy to predict the first shopping mall to ban purses 'in the name of safety'.

Why so hostile? She's incredibly competent as a meteorologist. And, would you rather she stand…Read More there with a cig in her mouth and a bottle of Jack than promote good health? hopefully you're using the word "preference" in the sense of "sexual preference"…Read More not "choice..." watching basketball is a choice... being gay is not (unless the person in question is bisexual, in which case, they do have a choice)...
i too look forward to the day when this sort of thing doesn't bear announcing, but it was a very courageous move on Mr. Collins's part to be the FIRST current major sports star to go public, and he deserves a lot of praise for it...
i am also quite pleased to see that he is being strongly supported by the NBA and his fellow players... the evolution has begun! (and is being at least partially televised...)
