First settled by Welsh Quakers in 1682, Lower Merion is a neighboring suburb of Philadelphia with a strong community feel.

Split into 14 wards and containing 16 different civic associations, Lower Merion Township is home to several tight-knit neighborhoods located along Pennsylvania's "Main Line" area, and served by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) and Amtrack rail lines.

As of the 2000 census, the township had 58,740 residents with a median housing value of $341,100 and a median family income of $86,373, the top figures for townships in Montgomery County, PA. Lower Merion is located northwest of Philadelphia, encompassing 23.64 square miles.
