<p>First settled by Welsh Quakers in 1682, Lower Merion is a neighboring suburb of Philadelphia with a strong community feel.</p>
<p>Split into 14 wards and containing 16 different civic associations, Lower Merion Township is home to several tight-knit neighborhoods located along Pennsylvania's "Main Line" area, and served by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) and Amtrack rail lines.</p> <p>As of the 2000 census, the township had 58,740 residents with a median housing value of $341,100 and a median family income of $86,373, the top figures for townships in Montgomery County, PA. Lower Merion is located northwest of Philadelphia, encompassing 23.64 square miles.</p>
