Lankenau Hospital was first established in 1860 and has since been recognized as one of America's best hospitals, consistently listed among HealthGrades' America's 50 Best Hospitals. It is one of four hospitals in the area associated with Main Line Health, a community-based non-for-profit health system.
The hospital manages 331 beds and over 40,000 emergency room visits a year. The facility also includes a "state-of-the-art Cancer Center, a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and a Kidney Transplant program," according to the hospital's Web site.
Lankenau also acts as a teaching hospital and is home to the Walter and Leonore Annenberg Conference Center for Medical Education (opened in 2004) and the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research, which conducts post-graduate research with a focus on cancer and heart disease.
