Viewfinder: The Cherry Trees of Wynnewood Valley Park

The gifts from Japanese Rotarians in 1977 keep on giving.

Last Sunday, May 1, the day after volunteers organized by the Lower Merion Conservancy and the Ardmore Rotary Club helped to mulch, weed and tidy up ’s Sensory Garden of Lower Merion, their work was very much in evidence on the grounds.

Also on the ground and along the pathways was a light coating of pink. Above, in the 34-year-old cherry trees donated by the Rotary Club of Tokyo, Japan, more evidence—of spring—was  bursting forth. A week later, the trees will be that much fuller.

You can see them, and the refurbished and replanted Sensory Garden that they shade, Monday evening at 5 p.m. when a ribbon-cutting for the revitalized garden takes place. The presentation will be followed with a performance by the Melmark School handbell choir, the Joybells, and garden tours.
