Local UPS Stores Hosting Alex's Lemonade Stands

This is the second year area UPS Stores are taking part in Alex's Lemonade stands.

The UPS Store submitted the following news release:

Joining the battle against childhood cancer, The UPS Store in Bryn Mawr and its sister locations in Wayne, Exton, West Chester, Phoenixville, and Wynnewood will host Alex’s Lemonade Stands on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This lemonade stand is part of their second annual Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation event. Last year the locations owned by the Brady family raised $4,200 in their 2012 fundraising efforts. This year the goal for their eight stores is to raise $20,000! Store owners Daniel Brady, Kevin Brady, and Stephen Brady, lifelong area residents who opened their first store in 1989, became involved with the fundraiser as a way to give back to the local community.

“We wanted to get The UPS Stores in the tri-state area involved in a good cause, and Alex’s Lemonade was a perfect fit,” said Daniel Brady, who also serves as president of the marketing co-op for The UPS Store owners in the Philadelphia area. “Our stores have donated mailbox services to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for years, so we already had a relationship with the organization. We also like that they are locally based, and that a very high percentage – about 90 cents out of every dollar – goes directly toward researching cures and paying for treatment and treatment-related services for patients.”

Last year the entire Philadelphia area co-op raised nearly $9,000 for the foundation. “Our team has really embraced the cause, and we’re working to get even more The UPS Store locations involved this year,” Daniel Brady said. Lemonade and baked goods will be available at each Alex’s Lemonade Stand, and the stores will donate one dollar to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for every package shipped on Saturday.

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $60 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding more than 300 research projects nationally.
