Alex's 'Original' Lemonade Stand Comes To Penn Wynne Saturday

The fundraiser for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation includes a choir performance and butterfly release.

In 2000, 4-year-old Alex Scott told her parents that she wanted to raise money to help kids who, like her, were facing childhood cancer—and that she was going to do it by holding a lemonade stand. And, she did.

Alex passed away in 2004, but her legacy continues. Since that first lemonade stand, has raised more than $50 million, funding more than 200 pediatric cancer research projects nationally. Each year, a lemonade stand is held in Alex's honor just a few blocks away from her home, at , which she attended.

The tradition continues this year, as Alex's "Original" Lemonade Stand comes to Penn Wynne Elementary (250 E Haverford Road, Wynnewood) on Saturday, June 9. The event celebrates the lives of those children who have been diagnosed with cancer, and looks to an eventual cure.
