"An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors," the NWS said.

The heat wave could last through the weekend. There have been seven consecutive days with maximum temperatures over 90 degrees in Philadelphia. The record is 18 days, set in 1988. The NWS predicts this heat spell will last through Monday—totaling 11 days.
