Get Out: African Dance, Camp Out and 5K

What's going on in the Ardmore Patch area this weekend.

The summer may be coming to a close, but there is still plenty going on in the Ardmore area. This weekend, enjoy some great live music at MilkBoy on Friday, camp out with the family at Riverbend, watch a free African dance performance at the library, or run an adventurous 5K.

African Healing Dance Performance. The Ardmore Library will host Angela Watson, the choreographer of KuluMele African American Dance Ensemble, for an African healing dance performance. Watson is a choreographer and storyteller who specializes in African dance. Refreshments will be provided.

  • When: 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20
  • Where: The performance room of the Ardmore Library Processing Center, 104 Ardmore Ave., Ardmore
  • Cost: Free

Will Knox w/ Tom Curtis Jr. and Ari Herstrand. Come hear British "alt-folk troubadour" Will Knox, The Fray and Mumford Sons-influenced Tom Curtis Jr., who released a new album last month. Ari Herstrand, who is on a nation-wide tour with Knox, is known for his live-looping technique and has had his music featured on "The Real World" and "One Tree Hill."

  • When: 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 19
  • Where: Ardmore
  • Cost: $8 advance, $10 day of show

That would be you running, not a horse. If you are up for the challenge, the Radnor Red Steeplechase 5K features hurdles, water pits and cross country trails. The run also includes a free fun run for kids ages 13 and under, beginning at 10 a.m.

  • When: 9 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21
  • Where: Radnor Hunt Club
  • Cost: $30 for 5K; kids fun run is free

Family Camp Out at Riverbend. If you missed out on camping this summer, here's your chance: Riverbend is hosting another family camp out this weekend. All you need is a tent and sleeping bag; Riverbend provides the food, fire and staff, so camping isn't as stressful as it could be.

  • When: 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 19 to 9 a.m. on Saturday
  • Where: Riverbend Environmental Education Center, 1950 Spring Mill Road, Gladwyne

Vegan Spirituality Retreat. Public Eye: Artists for Animals presents its 2nd annual retreat on Vegan Spirituality, which explores veganism as a spiritual practice. The event features discussions, meditation, a vegan lunch, yoga and a nature walk along the creek at Saunders Woods.

  • When: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m.
  • Where: Saunders Woods, 1020 Waverly Road, Gladwyne
  • Cost: $30 adults (some scholarships available), $20 adult students/seniors, $15 youth (12-17), $10 children (6-11), free for children younger than 6.
