Penn Wynne Library 5-K race

The Penn Wynne Library announces its eleventh annual 5 K Race, for people of all ages and physical abilities. The race will be held this year on Saturday, October 1, at 9 AM. It begins at the Library, 130 Overbrook Parkway. Entrants may either walk or run, for either all or part of the course. Strollers are welcome. The top three female and male runners overall will receive trophies and the top finisher in each age group receives a medal; the first 200 registrants will receive a free t-shirt and all children will get an award.

Mike Missanelli, talk show host on Philadelphia’s first sports FM radio station, 97.5 FM The Fanatic, and on 950 AM, ESPN affiliates, will return as this year’s MC. Missanelli is known for his folksy humor and bombastic personality.

Other activities will be occurring simultaneously in front of the library building and in the church yard next door:arts and crafts, therapeutic massage, face painting, a moon bounce, and tug of war for children.

In conjunction with the race, this year we will once again hold our neighborhood favorite—the pasta dinner! Catered by Boston Pizza (with additional food from other sources), it will be held on the night before, Friday September 30, at 6:30 pm, in the Presbyterian church at the corner of Manoa and Haverford Roads. And the price hasn’t changed: entrance fee will be $10. for adults and children over 10 years old; children under 10 enter free!

Brochures and registration forms for the 5-K race are available at the Library, and will soon be available from the race website, http://www.pennwynne5k.org, as well as on our Facebook page. In addition, forms will be at some local area sports and running equipment businesses and gyms. Pre-registration is encouraged: $50. per family and $20. per individual, before September 25; after that date, $55. for each family and $25. for an individual.
