Wynnewood, Haverford Schools Included in Private Schools Guide

Main Line Today Magazine recently set out to list the highlights of the area's private schools in its Private Schools Guide.

Some schools in Wynnewood and Haverford—Friends' Central School and Merion Mercy Academy and The Haverford School—were mentioned. The magazine writes:

• Merion Mercy Academy students don’t have to wait until college to opt for online classes. AP micro-economics, AP macroeconomics, AP psychology and Mandarin Chinese are just a few of the courses offered on the Web.

• Students at Friends’ Central School have gone on safari in Tanzania and explored the Inca trail in Peru. One spent half of her sophomore year in Russia.

• Upper-school students in the math department’s software programming class at the Haverford School created the first Apple-approved, student-designed app. It enables students to easily access things like their daily schedule, lunch menu and faculty email contacts. The Calvary, Haverford’s robotics team, brought home several awards from the VEX Robotics World Championship this past spring in Anaheim, Calif. Next year, robotics will be further incorporated into the science curriculum with a LEGO program in the lower school.
