New Contract Negotiations Scheduled for LMSD Staff

The school district and its main employee union have not talked since before classes began Sept. 4.

The Lower Merion School District and Lower Merion Education Association will hold contract negotiations for about 1,300 school employees the afternoon of Monday, Oct. 1, both organizations told Patch on Wednesday.

The session will come exactly three months after the previous contract expired and more than a month after the most recent negotiating session reported by either side.

This year's stalemate has outlasted that of 2010, when after the LMEA contract expired in June, staff and the administration came to terms on a new two-year agreement that was approved at a September school board meeting.

LMEA president Chris SantaMaria told Patch the next full meeting of union membership is scheduled for after school Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Lower Merion High School.

The school board next meets this Monday, Sept. 24, before a supplemental board meeting Oct. 8 and the next regular monthly meeting Oct. 15.
