Lower Merion Schools Mark LEED Certification
A ceremony at Harriton High School on Thursday, Oct. 24, celebrated the fact Harriton and Lower Merion high schools recently were certified as LEED Gold facilities.
“Lower Merion School District is deeply committed to supporting sustainability in our school community,” the district said in a statement.
LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is a program run by the U.S. Green Building Council that provides third-party verification of green buildings. According to the Council, LEED-certified buildings can reduced water and energy costs by as much as 40%.

Harriton and Lower Merion were designed by KCBA Architects and feature storm water management systems, energy-saving equipment and rainwater treatment systems.
Only about 260 schools across the country have earned Gold or higher LEED certification.
