The Lower Merion School Board approved a final budget for the 2013-14 school year that includes a 3.82 percent tax increase, the Main Line Times is reporting. This comes out to an extra $225 for a home with an assessed value of $250,680.
While, according to the website, the hike prompted board members Gary Friedlander and Jerry Novick to vote against the budget, it actually marks a decrease from the preliminary budget the board approved in February. The initial budget included a 4.4 percent jump, though, according to district spokesman Doug Young, that figure was simply a starting point.
According to the report, in the coming school year, the district will spend an estimated $221,634,342—up from $212,809,404 in 2012-13.
