Haverford School District Could Lose $1.3Mil

The Haverford Patch reports that State Senator Daylin Leach (D-17) said the proposed state budget and Senate Bill 1 might hurt the school district dramatically.

State Senator Daylin Leach (D-17) told a startled Haverford School Board at its May 19 meeting that the school district would lose $1.3 million in state aid if the proposed state budget passes.

While addressing the Haverford School Board, Leach said the proposed $27.3 billion state budget disproportionately affects poorer schools in the state, as well as other schools such as those in Haverford Township. He added that the proposed school choice bill, or Senate Bill 1 (SB1), would be paid for in the first couple of years—entirely by taking money from poorer school districts in the state.

, the Lower Merion School District said that it expects to lose as much as $1.4 million in state funding, and earlier this month  to help bridge the $3.1 million gap between this year's expenses and projections for 2011-2012.
