Haverford College Named ‘Friendliest’ by HuffPost

was included in the Huffington Post’s “Friendliest Colleges” list, posted on Wednesday.

“With generally fewer than three percent living off campus each year and a student body of only 1,200, these guys don't seem to get sick of each other,” the article said.

“Haverford is such a happy place that no one ever wants to leave,” said one commenter to the article, identified as “martiniandabotoxchaser.”

The Huffington Post and Patch.com are both owned by AOL Inc., based in New York.

Another comment, left by “Spartan112,” seems happy for the school but expressed some degree of concern: “I have a couple of former advisees who attend/att­ended Haverford and I can attest to their genuine concern about each other. I do worry that it may limit their ability to help themselves in certain situations though.”

The article quoted a Unigo.com student reviewer: “The best thing about Haverford is the friendly population. I knew that Haverford was a great college academically, but what really drew me in were the people! Everyone is so friendly and wants to help whoever needs it.”

The Huffington Post made no mention of its methodology for selection with the list. Haverford was listed eighth among eight schools. The others are Carleton College, Washington University (St. Louis), Kenyon College, Clemson University, the University of Nebraska—Lincoln, the University of Scranton, and Loyola Marymount University.

Haverford College also made the recent U.S. News & World Report 2011 rankings of best liberal arts colleges, coming in at no. 9 among 187 ranked schools. (The U.S. News methodology can be viewed here.)
