The Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia designs the Old House Fair to address an unmet need for the special expertise, goods and services that local homeowners need to meet the challenges of maintaining an old house. The Fair features over 70 vendor booths and an array of learning opportunities for owners of the old house to better maintain and restore their homes, including demonstrations, expert panels and other “hands on” assistance.

Over 700 people attended our last Fair in 2010, and visitors’ reviews found that the Fair helped to address their needs on how to and where to go for their specialized restoration and rehabilitation needs.  We know more people than ever will want to learn how to preserve, protect and enhance their existing homes.  Our experience indicates that 90% of attendees at previous Fairs were actively planning or in the process of restoration or improvement work on their homes.

Special Features of the Fair

1) Over 70 booths featuring vendors marketing preservation-related products, services and specialized resources for the owners of older and historic homes.

2)  Demonstrations and presentations by participating professionals about the products, skills, and/or services they offer.

3)  Free, 15-minute problem solving consultations for homeowners with an array of old house specialists will be available at the Ask the Experts panels.

4)  Free, 15-minute exterior paint color consultations with “The Color Doctor” John Crosby Freeman, featured in the Old House Journal.

5) Presentation of Homeowner Awards” to private homeowners with exemplary stewardship in preservation through renovation and maintenance of their property.

The Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia actively promotes the appreciation, protection, and revitalization of the Philadelphia region’s historic    buildings, communities, and landscapes. A 501c3 non-profit membership organization, the Alliance leads in setting the agenda for preservation issues of regional importance and advocates strong public preservation policies.
