Hula - A Cultural Experience
This class features instruction for intermediate/advanced dancers that are interested in a more rounded Hawaiian experience. This time will be used solely for all things Hawaiian – no Tahitian or Maori dancing will be taught. Additional features of this class apart from hula instruction – both kāhiko (ancient style) and ʻauana (modern style) – would be Hawaiian language & pronunciation, oli (chant), deeper study of mele (songs) and their significance, history of Hawaiʻi & an emphasis on learning how to perform as a cohesive unit. It is highly recommended that people new to dancing take a beginners class first, before entering this Monday class, as basics will not be covered.
