'Older Americans Month:' Seniors' Community Connections; PALM Flea Market This Saturday

Palm Senior Center in Ardmore Announces a flea market on Saturday, June 4, 2011.

This blog post will mark the end of the 2011 Older Americans Month.

May has been designated as “Older Americans Month” ever since a proclamation by John F. Kennedy in 1963. Every President since that time has made a similar proclamation, and each year the month is given a different theme. The theme for 2011 was “Older Americans connecting the community.” It was an occasion to show appreciation and support for our seniors as they continue to enrich and strengthen our community here in Ardmore, Wynnewood and Merion.

It was apparent to anyone who voted in the recent elections that seniors play an important part in our election process. There were many seniors who volunteered at the polls on May 17th. In 2011, seniors were more active in community life than ever before, thanks in part to advances in health care, education, technology, and financial stability over the last several decades. Hopefully this will continue in the years ahead.

Speaking of seniors, the PALM Senior Center (117 Ardmore Ave., Ardmore) will hold its annual flea market this coming Saturday June 4, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vendors or anyone with a desire to recycle usable items and reduce clutter are welcome to rent a space for a price between $20 and $25. Contact the center for a vendor registration form by calling 610-642-9370. Proceeds from the sale of tables help support the PALM Center. The public is invited to come to the flea market for an excellent opportunity to hunt for treasures and gently used items.

Stay well until the next post.
