Sadness, Fond Memories Over Historic Gladwyne Home

Former residents reminisce about a Monk Road home that has been approved for demolition.

Former residents said they were saddened when they recently learned of the demolition of the home at 1316 Monk Road in Gladwyne, which they grew up in along with their two older brothers.

“I felt saddened, and I felt it had just been a wonderful place to grow up,” said Nancy Huggins, 69, of Concord, Mass. “My parents were full of life and full of fun.”

Though the Lower Merion Township Board of Commissioners expressed reservations, last month they unanimously approved a request to tear down the main house, an addition to the stable and the pool house.
