Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Will Announce Completion of $2.1 Million Realignment Project

The ceremony will be held on Ardmore Avenue and Lancaster Avenue on Feb. 2 at 8 a.m.

After extensive work to realign Ardmore Avenue and Route 30/Lancaster Avenue, the intersection is ready for its official debut.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Feb. 2 at 8 a.m. to publicly announce the completion of the realignment project.

“This improvement has resulted in traffic moving more smoothly through this busy intersection and a safer walking environment for pedestrians,” said a township news release announcing the ceremony. “Also, a small plaza area now welcomes the traveling public to downtown Ardmore and provides a seating area for walkers and bicycle parking.”

The Lower Merion Board of Commissioners approved the project in January 2010, most of which was finished this past December. The total cost was approximately $2.1 million, including a controversial fountain in the plaza purchased for $135,000. The news release said the final work will be painting along the concrete base of the fountain sometime after the weather warms up.

"The completion of this long-awaited project is worth noting," Township Manager Doug Cleland said in the release.

The public is invited to join members of the Lower Merion Board of Commissioners, as well as representatives from the Montgomery County Planning Commission and Economic Revitalization Board, the Ardmore Initiative and other involved parties, according to the release.

A short ceremony will be held at the intersection before the ribbon is cut, and light refreshments will be provided. Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP to Lower Merion Township Secretary Eileen Trainer by phone at (610) 645-6145 or email at etrainer@lowermerion.org.
