Redistricting: Briggs Shifts, Vitali Into Penn Wynne, Gerber Out of Merion

Preliminary plan alters who represents Ardmore, Merion and Wynnewood in Harrisburg.

If plans in Harrisburg come to pass, state rep districts in Ardmore, Merion and Wynnewood could shift in 2012. Following the 2010 Census, state officials analyzed the data and released a preliminary plan for redrawing districts through the state. Current reps would juggle territories and a new one would represent the area in the General Assembly.

Democrat Rep. Tim Briggs's 149th District will lose Penn Wynne and pick up Merion in the trading of boundaries. Briggs will still represent most of Ardmore if the plans are approved.

Rep. Greg Vitali (D-166) has been a vocal critic of redistricting. He currently covers parts of Marple and all of Haverford Townships. He stands to lose some of those areas under the proposed plan and pick up Penn Wynne. Vitali has held public meetings opposing portions of the plan, as it splits .

Also shifting will be Rep. Michael Gerber (D-148). Though he will retain some of his Lower Merion and Narberth districts, Gerber loses his Merion and Ardmore claims.

In the Senate, Daylin Leach (D-17) will retain his district with Lower Merion in place. The only change to the 17th District will be a pickup of Blue Bell, within Montgomery County.
