NWS Issues Excessive Heat Warning Through Wednesday

Summer's early appearance has prompted an excessive heat warning for the Delaware Valley through 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The National Weather Service in Mt. Holly, N.J., issued the weather advisory Tuesday as another day of 90-degree temperatures plague the region following a balmy Memorial Day weekend.

As of 4:20 p.m., the temperature in Ardmore was 91 degrees. With the heat index, it feels more like 95 out there. Temperatures are not due to dip below 80 degree until 9 or 10 p.m. Tonight will be warm and sticky with temperatures not dropping below 70.

With a reach throughout southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey, the advisory warns that "hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are likely."

The service advises residents to:

• Drink plenty of fluids;
• Stay in an air-conditioned room;
• Stay out of the sun; and
• Check up on relatives and neighbors.

Heat indexes Tuesday and Wednesday should hover in the 90s, and afternoon activities should be limited.
