Memorial Day Closings; Parade Schedule

All government offices and courthouses are closed today. The parade starts at 10:30, followed by a ceremony at St. Paul's Cemetery.

The Lower Merion Township Administration Building, the Township Treasurer's Office and all Township libraries are closed today in observance of Memorial Day.

There will be no trash or recycling collections today, and a refuse and recycling holiday collection schedule is in effect for the remainder of the week. (To determine your pickup schedule, click here for trash and here for recycling.)

All U.S. Post Offices are closed Monday and there will be no mail delivery. All federal and state service offices are also closed. Banks, too, are closed for the holiday.

Today's Schedule

9:45 a.m.  The Merion Concert Band performs at Lancaster and Argyle avenues, Ardmore.

10:30 a.m.  The Lower Merion Township Memorial Day Parade  gets going from Greenfield Avenue.  The parade review takes place in front of the Township Administration Building (75 E. Lancaster Ave.).

The parade will feature more than 40 participants, including Lower Merion fire companies, the Historical Car Club of Pennsylvania, a variety of drill teams and cheerleaders, decorated bicycles, and more.

11:15 a.m.  The parade procession continues  on to St. Paul's Cemetery for a Memorial Service. U.S. Navy Reserve Capt. John J. Mulhern (Ret.) will offer the greeting, to be followed by an Invocation by Reverend Dr. Harry McDowell of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the traditional flag ceremony and singing of the National Anthem.

The Laying of the Wreaths will be followed by piper Daniel Emery, performing "Flowers of the Forest." Kira Goldner will play "Taps." The benediction will be offered by Rev. Albert Johnson of Bethel AME Church in Ardmore.
