Headed Downashore? Tolls Get Hiked Starting Friday

Pennsylvania-bound bridge tolls will go from $4 to $5. PATCO fees will be up 10 percent.

It's still free to drive into New Jersey. But to get back home to Ardmore, Merion or Wynnewood, it'll cost you an extra dollar starting Friday.

The Delaware River Port Authority is increasing its bridge tolls and PATCO fees to fund infrastructure improvements, the authority announced on its website. For drivers coming home from the Garden State on the Commodore Barry, Walt Whitman, Ben Franklin and Betsy Ross bridges, the cost will be $5, up from $4.

Trips on PATCO (the Port Authority Transit Corporation) will cost 10 percent more. PATCO's trains run between Philadelphia (terminal at 16th and Locust streets) and Lindenwold, NJ. An end-to-end trip will now cost $3.

A Main Line resident could get from home to the shore via SEPTA and NJ Transit, with or without a PATCO trip in the middle.

The fee increases are meant to help fund repairs to all four bridges and PATCO, as well as all 120 PATCO cars.
