The closest locations include the Radnor and Springfield (Delaware County) police stations.

Have any old, unused prescription drugs lying around in your medicine cabinet?

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration is coordinating a national effort to safely dispose of potentially dangerous expired medicines from the nation's medicine cabinets, starting with a free disposal day on Sept. 25.

"The National Take-Back Day provides an opportunity for the public to surrender expired, unwanted or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications for destruction," a Lower Merion Township press release said. "These drugs are a potential source of supply for illegal use and an unacceptable risk to public health and safety."

The collection will occur at multiple locations throughout the state, with the closest being the Radnor Police Department Building at 301 Iven Avenue in Radnor. Collection will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"This one-day effort is intended to bring national focus to the issue of increasing pharmaceutical controlled substance abuse," said the release. "The program is anonymous and prescription and over the counter solid dosage medications, such as tablets and capsules are accepted. However, intra-venous solutions, injectables and needles will not be accepted and illicit substances such as marijuana or methamphetamine are not a part of this initiative."
