Dozens of Vets Head to D.C. on Gerber 'Appreciation' Trip

It's the sixth annual day for veterans of the 148th state congressional district.

As I type this at 8:30 a.m., sitting on the air-conditioned coach, headed down Interstate 95, a couple of fellow veterans seemed to be asking me what the rush was.

Clearly, the 24-7-365 news cycle is not part of most these folks' modus operandi. "Don't worry," said one. "I'll tell you my story."

All in good time. So it's time to close up the laptop for a while, sit back and just listen. We'll have more later from the trip to Washington D.C., where the group will have lunch on the Mall and visit the National Air & Space Museum, among other stops.

In the meantime, here's State Rep. Mike Gerber (D., 148th), speaking about the sixth annual day honoring veterans in his district, just before the buses rolled out of Plymouth Meeting High School at 6:45 a.m.
