Discarded Christmas trees will be picked up from residences in early January in Lower Merion and Narberth, then ground into mulch at the township public works complex in Penn Valley.
In Lower Merion, the Shade Tree Commission will begin picking up trees on Wednesday, Jan. 2, to mulch them at the public works complex in Penn Valley. After a couple weeks, township spokesman Tom Walsh said, tree pickup will fall to regular trash collectors.
In Narberth, the trees will be picked up curbside every day Monday, Jan. 7 through Friday, Jan. 11.
Trees can also be dropped off at the public works complex, at 1300 N. Woodbine Ave. in Penn Valley.
All collected trees will be fed into a chipper, so residents are asked to remove all decorations before leaving the trees out for collection.
The resulting mulch will be available for pickup at the public works complex. Call ahead at 610-667-1952 to check availability.
