Vehicle Crashes At Lower Merion 7-Eleven

A father and daughter both thought the other was killed immediately after Saturday's accident.

A driver of a black, two-door Chevy Blazer slammed into the front of the  in Lower Merion Saturday morning.

Sgt. G. J. Conlon said he could not comment on the accident that occurred around 9 a.m. because it was still being investigated, but eyewitnesses told Patch that the Blazer crashed into the front of the 7-Eleven at 169 West City Avenue, on the northeastern edge of .

The driver was hospitalized, Conlon said.

Katherine Oaks was in the store when the crash occurred.

“It stopped two feet from the counter where I was at,” the 21-year-old Oaks said.

Her father, Steve Oaks, said that he was parked in front of the 7-Eleven when the Blazer just “missed” hitting his own vehicle.

Steve Oaks said that he thought his daughter was killed when the vehicle went into the store and Katherine Oaks said she thought her father was dead as well, thinking the Blazer struck his car.

Both were relieved to discover they were OK, but Steve Oaks said the driver, the only person believed to have been in the Blazer, was his next concern.

“The driver was in shock. He had a black eye,” Steve Oaks said, but stated the driver told him the black eye was from a prior incident. The driver was able to get out of the Blazer on his own.

A vehicle slamming into this particular 7-Eleven is nothing new, according to the store’s owner, Chukri Khorchid. Former Philadelphia 76er Charles Barkley or a friend crashed there in the 1980s, said Khorchid.

Khorchid, who was at his Haverford 7-Eleven at the time of the accident, said that repair crews would begin fixing his Lower Merion store, and that the store would remain open Saturday.

. towed the Blazer away.

Also at the scene of the accident was the of Bala Cynwyd.
