Thousands Stolen In Merion Break-In, Police Say

Last week, Merion residents returned home to find their home ransacked and a large amount of jewelry stolen, according to police.

A large amount of jewelry was reported stolen from a home on the unit block of Merion Road in Merion sometime between noon Sept. 1 and 3 p.m. Sept. 4, according to Lower Merion police.

Residents returned home on Sept. 4 and found the front door jamb damaged, along with a large amount of ransacking in the master bedroom. More damage was found to a rear door, police said.

A large amount of jewelry was reported missing, included a long, triple-stranded set of pearl necklaces, a ring with pearls and diamonds, a gold pin with pearls in leaf patterns, pearl earrings, a small blue-colored glass box with a small rosary, a sterling silver necklace and bracelet, a pin in the shape of a shamrock, a hair clip, various gold necklaces, bracelets, pins and watches.

A set of ivory and onyx hair clips and various pieces of costume jewelry were also reported missing, according to police.

The estimated loss is in the thousands, but an exact estimate is not known, police said.
