Home Depot Cashier Accused of Felony Retail Theft

Maria C. Flores-Rivera, 30, of Reading, is facing multiple charges after she allegedly gave unauthorized discounts to customers.

A Reading woman is facing felony retail theft charges after she allegedly provided unauthorized discounts to customers while working as a cashier at Home Depot in Lower Pottsgrove.

According to a report in the Pottstown Mercury, 30-year-old Maria C. Flores-Rivera has been charged with felony retail theft, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, after an internal investigation allegedly uncovered several deeply-discounted sales to customers in exchange for cash afterwards.

Flores-Rivera allegedly marked down a group of items by $50 and sold them to an unknown woman on Jan. 13. In subsequent sales incidents, Flores-Rivera also allegedly sold $629 of good to the same woman for $6.29, the report states.

A report by the Sanatoga Post states that the investigation revealed that Flores-Rivera also allegedly stole $400 from her register, bringing the total loss to $1,100 for Home Depot.

Flores-Rivera was taken to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail, and her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 14 at 10 a.m.

Police are still investigating the incident, as well as the unknown woman, the report states.

they wonder why things cost so much- I deal there and it saddens me sometimes to give a quote to customer's only to have the people balk at the work- maybe if there were more harsher penalties this would not happen or better yet how about doing things the right way and quit thieving- sad part is you would probably be surprised at what goes on in stores
