Police Blotter: Thief Nabs New Mercedes with Engine Running at Merion Station

The following information has been supplied by the Lower Merion Police Department. If arrests or charges are mentioned, they do not indicate guilt or a conviction.

On Monday afternoon,  reported to news media the following incidents from the past week:

An unidentified man working with an accomplice stole a 2011 Mercedes from at 300 Montgomery Avenue in Merion Station on Nov. 21st. The brazen heist occurred while the driver was inside the station, Lower Merion Police said.

The two perpetrators were evidently waiting for just such an opportunity, police said—the driver of the Mercedes Benz S550 had left the car running and unlocked.

The thief was dropped off by a partner who was driving what looked to be a black GM-model car, according to the incident report. He then quickly hopped behind the wheel of the Mercedes before leaving the station.

Police described the suspect as a light-skinned black male, balding and with a beard, wearing a long-sleeved blue t-shirt, jeans and black sneakers.

There are no reported suspects.

Burglary

A home on the 300 block of Cherry Bend in Merion Station (coincidentally, directly behind Wark's gas station) was burglarized on Nov. 22nd, sometime between 3:30 p.m. and 8:25 p.m., police said. A back door to the house was forced open, and there was “some ransacking” along with stolen jewelry boxes. It was not known how much jewelry was in the boxes, if any, or its value.

Theft

An Android Tablet computer was stolen from in Wynnewood on Nov. 22nd, sometime between 4:20 and 6 p.m., police said. The tablet, which was left plugged in an charging in the hospital’s third-floor nurse’s station, was valued at $400.
