Police Blotter: Grapefruit Chucking, Public Drunkenness, and Other March Madness

The Lower Merion police report for our Patch from March 14 to March 21.

Public Drunkenness:

Police said two people were arrested for public drunkenness on the 200 block of Simpson Road at 11:38 p.m. on March 18. Police said they responded to a report of a disturbance, and found two individuals who fit the description. Alisha Gambone, 22, of the 2600 block of Stanbridge Street in Norristown, and Nigel Griffin, 25, of the 100 block of E. 4th Street in Bridgeport, smelled of alcohol, police said, and had glassy eyes and were unsteady on their feet. Gambone and Griffin were cited with public drunkenness upon their release, police said.

Police said they responded to a report of a man throwing a grapefruit at a passing car at about midnight on March 20 at the intersection of Spring Avenue and Simpson Road in Ardmore. Police said the man was unsteady on his feet and had glassy, bloodshot eyes. John Hennessy, 47, of the unit block of Spring Avenue, was arrested and was charged with public drunkenness and disorderly conduct, police said.

Police observed a man stumbling at 3:22 p.m. on March 15 on the unit block of Lancaster Avenue in Ardmore. Police said Henry Abzan, 21, of the unit block of Cricket Terrace, had bloodshot eyes and was slurring his speech. He was arrested and was cited with public drunkenness upon sobering in the morning, police said.

Police said they responded to a report of a man lying in the roadway in front of a bar at 11:34 p.m. March 15. Police said they found the man still there and that there were no signs of injury. On the way back to the police station, medical transport was called, and the man was taken to Bryn Mawr Hospital for treatment and was kept overnight for observation. Narcizo Chaparro, 42, of the unit block of Cricket Avenue in Ardmore, was charged with public drunkenness, police said.

Burglary:

Police said there was a burglary on the unit block of Old Lancaster Road between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on March 14. When the homeowner returned to the residence, some property was strewn about the home, police said, and electronics and cash were stolen. A door had been forced in, but there were no witnesses, police said.

Sometime between 9 a.m. March 16 and 6 p.m. March 17, several pieces of jewelry were stolen from a home on the 400 block of Kent Road, police said. There were signs of forceful entry on the door, but there were no witnesses, police said.

DUI:

Police said a car was stopped on the 500 block of W. Lancaster Avenue at about 1 a.m. on March 18 because it was moving at a high rate of speed. Police said there was a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the driver, who failed a field sobriety test. Police said Ruben Manning, 29, of the 100 block of Walnut Avenue in Ardmore, had a BAC of .159 and was charged with driving under the influence.
