Police Blotter: DUI, Two Connected Thefts from Cars, Stolen Jewels

The March 14 report from the Lower Merion Police Department.

An Upper Darby man was arrested and charged with driving under the influence March 9 on Lancaster Avenue, police said in a weekly news briefing.

Police said an officer reported seeing Anthony Britt, 28, of Upper Darby's Drexel Hill section swerving and speeding about 2:10 a.m., headed east. According to police, through speed-limit zones of 25 mph to 35 mph, Britt was clocked traveling at speeds up to 62 mph.

He was stopped by an officer near the Clover Hill Road intersection in Wynnewood, where he failed a field-sobriety test and was charged with DUI, speeding, and failure to maintain his lane, police said.

Britt refused to take a breath test to determine his level of intoxication, police said.

Police said a car on the unit block of Blancoyd Road in Merion Station had a laptop, laptop charger, and a gym bag stolen between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. on Monday, March 7. Police said the gym bag was later discovered inside a second vehicle, from which a laptop was stolen overnight March 7 to March 8 on nearby Berwick Road. Police said the driver's window of that car had been broken.

Also, a resident of the Green Hill Apartments on City Avenue in Wynnewood had a jewelry box and $400 in cash taken between March 3 and March 9, police said. Pry marks were seen on the front door, police said.
