Police Blotter: Bicycle Thief at Least Left a Replacement

At a weekly media briefing Monday afternoon, Lower Merion police reported the following crimes and incidents from last week:

* A resident of the unit block of Merbrook Lane in Merion Station went into his garage April 11 and noticed two things: his $1,400 mountain bike was missing, and another bike had been left in its place.

* Around 1:45 a.m. Sunday, April 17, a cab driver pulled over at Ardmore and Lancaster avenues in Ardmore and called police. He complained that the fare
he brought from Center City was acting disorderly, and would not tell the driver where he wanted to go. Passenger Matthew McCartan, 31, who lives about a quarter-mile away on the 100 block of Argyle Road was found to have a blood alcohol content of 0.22, police said. McCartan was charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct.Someone intentionally scratched up, apparently with keys, the side of a 2011 Range Rover parked in a municipal lot on the unit block of West Lancaster Avenue in Ardmore, sometime on Monday, April 11.

* Villanova student Brendan Tully, 21, of Catonsville, Md., was arrested on charges of public intoxication after police said he was trying to hitchhike at Clover Hill Road and Lancaster Avenue in Wynnewood at about 2:50 a.m. on Thursday, April 14. Tully's blood alcohol content was 0.17, police said.

* Lynne Dalinka, 70, of the Green Hill Apartments on the 1000 block of City Avenue in Wynnewood, threatened to dismember a maintenance man there and knock his teeth out around 8:40 a.m., April 14, in a laundry room there, police said. Dalinka has been charged with simple assault, terroristic threats and disorderly conduct.

* An iPod, laptop, GPS unit and SEPTA tickets were stolen from two unlocked vehicles in a driveway on the 300 block of North Highland Avenue in Merion Station overnight from Friday, April 15, to Saturday, April 16.

* Mariana Fernandez, 21, a resident of Carmel, Ind., was charged with public intoxication after entering the Narberth Ambulance Corps garage on Sibley Avenue in Ardmore at about 11:20 p.m. Saturday, April 16, police said. Fernandez' blood alcohol content was reported to be 0.16.
