Police Activity: Car Crashes Increase in Lower Merion

Officers responded to 46 accidents with property damage in the past week.

Calls for  police response ticked up in the week leading up to Halloween, particularly for traffic accidents with property damage, department records show.

According to a weekly report posted on the township's website, the department received 768 calls for service from Oct. 24 through Oct. 30, after weeks of , , ,  and  incidents.

Forty-six of the calls were for vehicular accidents causing property damage, after 32 the previous week.

A version of the most recent report, sorted by the type of incident, is attached to this article. In the past week, the police calls (which do not necessarily indicate arrests were made or charges filed) include:

  • 1 assault
  • 1 attempted suicide (Thursday night at Old Lancaster Road and City Avenue in Bala Cynwyd)
  • 3 burglaries
  • 8 disorderly conduct cases (one Sunday evening on the 900 block of Summit Road in Penn Valley)
  • 2 DUIs (including one early Thursday morning on the 700 block of Conshohocken State Road in Penn Valley)
  • 1 fatal accident (a motorcycle crash Friday afternoon at Llandrillo Road and Trevor Lane in Bala Cynwyd)
  • 9 fires (three in Bala Cynwyd: appliance fires Sunday morning and afternoon, and a structure fire on the 200 block of Clwyd Road Monday morning Oct. 24)
  • 4 fraud cases (including two credit card/ATM frauds in Bala Cynwyd, one Wednesday morning on the unit block of Bala Avenue and one Thursday afternoon on the 100 block of W. City Avenue)
  • 6 vehicular accidents with injuries
  • 46 vehicular accidents with property damage
  • 13 thefts
