Girl's Neighbor Chases Thief, Gets Bike Back, Police Say

Two days earlier, another bike owner in Wynnewood wasn't as lucky, police said.

On Monday afternoon, Lower Merion police reported to news media the following incidents from the past week in Ardmore, Merion Station and Wynnewood:

Theft of bicycle: A resident on the 100 block of Rock Glen Road in Wynnewood heard a porch door open and shut about 9:55 a.m. Friday, July 6, then heard a neighbor yelling for someone to stop, police said. The resident then saw the neighbor chasing a man who was riding away on a girl's mountain bike stolen from the residence. The neighbor wrested the bike from the thief in the area of Rock Glen Road and Dorset Lane, police said, and returned it to its owner. The thief has not been apprehended.

Theft of bicycle: A woman's silver and gray Trek mountain bike was stolen from the Kaiserman JCC in Wynnewood between 11 a.m. and noon July 4, police said. The bike was unlocked, and the owner had left it at the JCC during Fourth of July festivities.

Attempted burglary: A resident of the 100 block of St. Paul's Road in Ardmore found damage to the knob on a rear door July 5, police said. It appeared someone had tried to break in overnight; the resident reported having heard noises around midnight.

Public drunkenness: A 32-year-old Ardmore man was cited for public drunkenness around 12:20 a.m. July 9 on the first block of Rittenhouse Place in Ardmore. His blood-alcohol content tested 0.20, police said.
