Man Asleep In Running Car Charged With DUI, Police Say

The incident occurred at W Spring Ave. and Cricket Ave. in Ardmore, police said.

A 26-year-old Upper Darby man was arrested early last Wednesday morning after he was found drunk and asleep in a running car in the middle of an Ardmore street, according to police.

At 12:44 a.m. on Jan. 9, police responded to the intersection of Cricket Avenue and W Spring Ave. on the report of a car that was parked with its motor running in the middle of the street. On arriving, police observed a Mini Cooper with its lights on and a man in the front seat who appeared to be asleep, according to the report.

After making several attempts to wake the driver, who did not respond, police reached through the passenger side door to shut off the car.

The man in the car, who had slurred speech and was having trouble staying awake, could not produce paperwork for the car, nor was his speech understandable.

The man was so unstable on his feet that he could not perform field sobriety tests, and he was taken back to police headquarters, where he registered a .208 on a blood alcohol content test, according to the report. He will be charged with driving under the influence, police said.
